I survived my first week back at work after the christmas holiday period, and now it's Friday evening.
Thank the gods it's Friday.
Seriously, how lucky are we to have weekends?
Seriously lucky. But you know what? It's not luck. Corporations would be happy to see us all work until we dropped, only to be replaced by the next forsaken soul.
No it's not luck.
It's politics that gave us the weekend.
It's the politics of workers joining together to demand a better deal from the corporations that were sucking their very life away before their eyes.
It's the politics of organised labour. The politics of unionism.
So if you don't like unions, and what they stand for, remember that without them, there would never be a weekend.
And if you think there's no place for them in today's economy, remember too that without the men and women of organised labor still standing strong at the barricades, weekends would disappear faster than you can say "profits aren't high enough this quarter."
Enjoy your hard-won weekend!
