Hi guys!
I said yes to my friend Jen when she asked if was gonna be a part of this nudist play for the fringe festival which is supposed to be happening at Wreck beach according to Korky, the director. Except that inn Jen’s mind, it is Granville beach, a competing nudist beach in Vancouver which makes much more sense since our theatre is a gallery on Granville street. However, Korky is being a little bit bossy and not giving Jen who is supposed to be his apprentice enough wiggle room in this improvised play. The old baby boomer that he is, he insists on getting all his points across almost lecturing the audience. I told him that his play needs more pauses and silences. We shall see if he can improve tomorrow as we have 5 more shows to go in the next two weeks.
I am trying to be as diplomatic as I can with him as he gave me that part as a mountie hoola hooper, and I am very grateful for that. During the rehearsal I was upfront about how I found condescending that he would treat the youth nowadays with the same standards as his who were not confronted to porn so young among many many other things. Differences between generations basically.
I think that the ideal lives on and that it’s great to question the way we raise our kids but we also have to leave a lot of space for people who want to outgrow orthodox taboos around nudity and just celebrate where we bohemian artists, nudists are at.
Jen is coming to terms with her nudity, I felt shy at times too, my body being displayed in front of the public; but it was also liberating to shed my armor on the wonderful soundtrack of the waves I recorded during my initiation at Wreck beach.
You see, I met Corky just about a week ago at the famous beach, it was my first time, 7 years into living here. I was elated to spend a sunny day at this unique, pristine, beautiful, massive nudist beach and it just so happens that it was Wreck beach day and now I am to be in an ambitious group photo for their web site. A nude group photo shines of course, by its artistic value. What a coincidence, the day itself had been postponed because of the wildfire situation we had over the summer. Had it not been for that, I would still have been in Montreal when it happened.
I did feel vaguely embarrassed to take my clothes off. I think Korky has massive balls for getting people to undress at the beach and I say this with no pun intended. This is the real therapy that gives a justification for the play. His ploy to convert the clothoholics in the audience into nudists stems from a belief that it is wrong to go there and not undress. That the gawkers are a real danger to this safe space around the bodies who are vulnerable to cell phone photography and the likes. He is not wrong. Few secular people comb the beaches to change people’s belief on profoundly ethical questions like this one.
Anyway, I must go to bed, I hope that this gives you a good idea what this play is about as I freewrote this write-up. Let me know if you have any questions, perhaps I can write some more about this acting experience.
Also, I am not going to tag this NSFW since the human butt is all over the instagram which I believe is work friendly. Please let me know if you agree or not.
Cheers!
