I noticed quite a few eyebrows raised over the #blackouttuesday tag yesterday. If you don't know what it was, some people uploaded blank black photos as a way to protest racism, especially the Killing of Floyd.
Certainly the most 'interesting' I came across was a user (fellow black woman) mocking those who participated as nothing more than attention seekers and social media activists.
I have my reservations on issues like this, which is why I no longer write (or quite frankly try to think) much about politics, but I felt the need to share my view on our tendencies to be reactionary.
About three weeks ago, shared a post of how someone was rude to her on steemit over a view he didn't agree with. No trying to provide a superior argument in that case, just downright rude. Again it stems from issues like these where we sink into pale intellectualism and try to counter each other with stats and alt stats. But do we really have to drag out every issue?
Sometimes, it is best to just be silent about perceived deficiencies in a system especially when you offer no alternative. We have condemned riots, stealing and violence in the face of the murder. We have also condemned and called out those who have been silent about it, especially celebrities.
There is need to realize that lot of people who really want to help change or fight for a cause are constrained by - well, life. Therefore something that might be as seemingly irrelevant as a social media tag can give us a semblance of doing something.
