Shallow Thoughts
I spend an inordinate amount of time trying to optimize for efficiency in my life. There are limited hours in my day and limited years in my life, so I try to get the most out of it. Work efficiently. Work out efficiently. Sleep efficiently. Invest efficiently. Spend my free time productively with my loved ones. It can be exhausting at times, but I find it to be the only fulfilling way to live.
Deep Thoughts
When I stare at my sunflowers, tomatoes, and oak trees and accidentally meditate on life, I'm struck by how inefficient the natural processes are. Plants produce thousands of seeds in the hope that a few will survive. Hundreds of leaves are needed to create enough sugar for a single fruit. Over a lifetime, a man produces millions of sperm and a woman produces dozens of eggs, but a couple will only bear a few children. When you look at it by the numbers, it seems very inefficient...
But then I realize that the inefficiency of natural processes is not wasteful. . .
If nature produces something, then nature always finds a way to recycle it.
Nature is not optimized for efficiency. . . it's optimized for survival :)
