Choice is Freedom
It wasn’t all that long ago that taking what one could get was fundamental to survival. Having a choice was a luxury that most would only enjoy in very limited ways. It wasn’t until individual freedoms were implemented and the choices that came with them opened up vast possibilities, after all, the right to choose is the fundamental basis of freedom.
The Paradox
So how does freedom of choice become a paradox? Well, too many choices can leave one paralyzed and unable to make a choice. Anxiety skyrockets until a simple or random choice is made to get the process over with. Of course after the decision is completed there will be a lot of time invested contemplating if it was the correct one.
I love freedom of choice, but I am also realizing that too many choices can enslave you. I have been observing the gender wars and have seen two genders evolve into many. Is it because of the ability to choose? Is it due to too many choices that drives a person to choose differently? Would a person void of any choices but two have been unhappy with choosing one over the other?
The Results of Too Much Choice
When a person’s choice become so convoluted it nullifies the intent behind the reason for the decision, choice is diminished, thus limiting freedom, and therein lies the paradox.
