Fishbone one of the most underrated rock bands of all time, a seven piece band including the usually guitar bass player and drummer backed up with brass instruments they formed in 1979 in Los Angeles they have gone through various lineups with band members leaving and returning. They are still going to this day.
An energetic mix of Ska, rock and punk with a bit of Duke Ellington thrown in for good measure , Already a hyperactive band Angelo and the boys would spray ralgex on their scrotums before going on stage. Just for that extra kick, as you do.
I first heard them in the early 90s at the Bogies rock club in Cardiff Wales where I spent most of my misspent youth (as if sex drugs and rock n roll was ever time misspent).
They had a "disco" before and after local live bands and would always play Freddys Dead straight after Living Colour another great band which I had the chance to see live at the Cardiff Uni around 94ish. I never managed to see Fishbone back then and I would have to wait another 20 odd years to have the pleasure and they didn't disappoint they were absolutely fantastic. What a night! John Norwood Fisher pictured above had a near scrape with the law in 1993 when the guitarist Kendall Jones suffered a mental break down and ran away to join a religious cult, Norward thought it would be a good idea to rescue Jones unfortunately the police didnt see it that way and charge Norward with attempted kidnapping. He was latter acquitted when the case went to court.
