Well it took longer than I anticipated, but it got done.
I am very new to appliance repair. Even simple fixes can be a challenge for me. But no better way to learn than by doing, especially doing something I've never done before!
It's been over a week, but I finally got it.
I diagnosed the problem in my previous post, and discovered the belt had shredded.
Now, the new belt came in and it's time to install the part.
I'll just open this thing up and slap the belt on.
Sure. Easy peezy. Except this thing is TOUGH to open. I tried opening the back... NOPE. I tried opening the side... NOPE. The front... maybe, but NOPE.
I have to open the top. Of course.
Ok, now what?
So it looks like now I can open the front of the dryer. Only problem? The screws I need to remove for the front panel use a SQUARE bit to loosen. Not flat, not phillips, not star. SQUARE. After much diligent searching I found a solution - I had to use a square bit with a universal screw driver.
I didn't even know I had such a thing!
After removing two very tricky screws I managed to get the front panel off.
VICTORY!!!!!!
It was fun putting the belt in. So satisfying feeling the belt go tightly around the drum and around the motor. The simple pleasures in life!
I managed to put the dryer back together again and turned it on....
