Hello steemians friends, this time I will talk about the experience I had my first week as an undergraduate intern.
In the curriculum of the medical career, the last year is known as "rotating internship", are mostly practical activities, where the knowledge acquired in the first 6 years is tested, it is our last opportunity to learn before obtaining the title as a doctor.
During this internship you must rotate at least 2 months for each hospital service, going through internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics, gynecology and obstetrics and finally the rural internship.
My first rotation is in the surgery service, where it is subdivided, we spend a week through the urology service, then traumatology and finally general surgery. My group and I started with urology.
During this first week we were learning how to approach these patients, examine them correctly, studying the most frequent pathologies and how to treat them.
The procedure that most caught my attention was the urethral dilation, which was performed in a patient who suffered a trauma to his penis, which results in his urethral scarring and to avoid that, a dilator must be inserted for 10 minutes each 15 days later every month and then every 3-4 months.
For us to start the rotating internship is something exciting and special, because after 6 years of studies we can see the fruits, in addition to that we realize that we lack relatively little to finish the race.
