So it’s the day after Christmas and now we’re in that Limbo period between Christmas and New Years. But as far as I’m concerned the new year already started after the Winter solstice. The sun has reached its lowest point and begun to rise again. That’s what all the winter holidays are really all about, so it really doesn’t matter which one you celebrate. They’re all about the same thing. The rebirth of light from the darkness. The phoenix of hope rising from the ashes of despair. A time for new beginnings.
With that in mind, I figure this is as good a time as any to relocate my blog to Steemit. Something I’ve been thinking about doing for awhile. I’ve been blogging on Minds.com for a year now. It’s not a bad platform, but it seems to attract a lot of bad people. I don’t know, maybe Steemit does too. I guess I”ll find out eventually. I will still be cross posting to Minds, as well as MeWe. And of course Facebook and Twitter. Gotta extend my range as much as I can if I’m going to make this project amount to anything.
So since I am hoping to reach a new audience here, I guess I should start by telling a bit about myself. I’m an aspiring writer and urban homesteader living in Seattle, Washington. Turns out you can still find relatively reasonably price accommodations here IF you know the right people. I also work a full time job at a famous natural foods store which I’m not going to name because I don’t want to give them free advertising. If they want my endorsement, they can pay me. I’m expecting a call from them any day now. For all intents and purposes I’m just going to call them The Food Hole. I am a volunteer at the Beacon Food Forest. A community permaculture project with the lofty, idealistic long term vision of revolutionizing the food system, or at least showing the world a better way to do things. I don’t mind giving them free advertising. They’re a very worthy cause that’s changed my life for the better. In many ways. I consider myself a spiritual person and don’t follow any particular religion. I believe there’s an intelligent force behind the universe and anyone who claims to know what it is or what it wants from us is just trying to manipulate and control you. So I honor the good and reject the bad in all faiths and philosophies. Although being of European decent and raised Catholic I tend to lean more in those directions. Politically, I’m an Anarchist. Not an Anarcho-Capitalist, mind you, because that’s an oxymoron. Their philosophy does contain the occasional nugget of truth, like any philosophy, but it is fundamentally based on private property and hierarchies of wealth and power. None of which can exist without a state or some other entity that would serve the same function and essentially become the same thing. It would basically amount to a kind of corporate neo-feudalism. So I’m a left wing anarchist. I think that through communities coming together and supporting each other we could essentially make the state obsolete. Is that a realistic goal? Probably not, but if we can’t strive for the impossible than what are we even doing with our lives?
Lastly I want to address the title of my blog, which is a tribute to Dave Rabbit. A Vietnam veteran who rant a pirate radio station out of the back of a Saigon brothel. Probably one of the first “shock jocks”, and one of my personal heroes. I’ve taken this phrase as my overall philosophy on life, because I’ve found that whatever happens in my life, things always seem to work out for the best when I say “Fuck it! Before it fucks you!”. .
