April Writing Madness has come and gone. I did not complete my goal, but I am still slowly working towards it.
My goal was to complete 50,000 words in one month, whilst using the daily #freewrite prompt to influence bits and pieces of the story.
The result was that I completed 28,000 words, and discovered that what I'm writing is probably going to be more of a novelette than a full-fledged novel. But that's okay! Not everything needs to be a novel. This actually could become a series of novelettes and I'm happy with what I have done and what I am creating. 😁 Writing a series with these silly people sounds even better than writing a stand-alone book.
Joey and Jenny, the main characters of this story, were first born thanks to 's Five Minute Freewrite challenge nearly four years ago. The story that I've been writing during April first came into mind about two years ago. And this year, despite my apparent slothliness, I will finish this story.

I fell into a small lull halfway through April, mostly because I felt guilty about writing during family time. And then, as I got back into my groove my son came down with a very quick-and-finished Covid experience forcing us to spend this week in isolation. Nothing new for me, I love spending my days at home with no contact from the outside world, but my partner works and my son normally goes to school so this gave me another "off period" of writing.
At least I can brainstorm during this time!

I'm guesstimating that I have another 10,000 words of content to write. During the last story part that I posted, Joey finally revealed what he thought about Jenny and her "adultness." Next, Jenny needs to do some thinking about what Joey has said, then I'm planning a grand adventure where they partake in Joey's shroom-infused wine, crash a backyard barbeque, get chased into the forest, and the end of the story arrives.
I also need to backtrack and add at least two more interactions with the bogan neighbours. One where Jenny has an altercation, and one where Joey does something to them. I originally, when first thinking about this, had a lot more in store for the neighbours; however, when it came to
writing day-to-day it just didn't come about. I need to fix that.
Overall though, there isn't that much remaining. This story should be finished by the end of May! There are two weeks this month where I can write guilt-free and that should be more than enough to come up with a measly 10,000 or so words.
Then, I'm going to let it sit and gather dust for a month. Maybe two months. Then it's reviewing and editing time! Knowing me, I'll probably add quite a bit more during my first sweep. It's supposed to be a silly comedy and, in my personal opinion, it needs a lot more of that, but when I get to the edit I'll do things properly.

In the meantime, I've been staring at websites like SelfPubBookCovers and trying to find a pre-made cover that fits my story. I've been lucky in the past when it comes to having something absolutely perfect leap out at me!! So far I've found one possible contender. There's a male and a female, sitting together on a grassy field of nothingness with their backs facing the camera. One cloud hovers overhead. It's simple and I really like it. At the same time, just because I like it doesn't mean that it's what this particular story wants.
I'll keep looking!
If you've been following the story so far, never fear -- I will be continuing it and it will be finished! Hoping to do the next part this upcoming Monday/Tuesday, providing my son's Covid didn't infect me too and doesn't send me bedridden soon. Since apparently it can take a week or so for symptoms to show and blahdity-blah. 🙄 We'll see how things go.
