Despite the gorgeous and strangely tropical weather in Amsterdam at the moment - leaving for the summer seems the thing to do. It makes sense as good weather is never a guarantee here. As our plans are pretty last minute and not yet concrete - I find myself reminiscing about last summer. Part of my vacation was a week sailing in Croatia. Yes - this popular destination was more popular for tourism than football. We sailed the Adriatic Seas with it's more than 1000 islands-perfect for island hopping. I did not see them all but sailing between them was very memorable.
We got our provisions and changed Euros to Kunas. Then picked up the boat in Zaton where we met a flotilla with other dutch families. Naturally, we sailed alone but meeting others at our various destinations although optional, was nice socialisation for not only the children but us too.
The next morning we met the other families, got a briefing re. routes to take, great anchoring locations etc. Everyone was friendly and eager to get started. Afterall, we were there for sailing - so off we went. This journey with me, will take you into my special memories of 1 year ago - rather than a dairy of 7 days sailing the seas.
Looking back at beautiful Zaton. This view was a promise of more to come.
Beautiful villages by the sea.
The wind was perfect and also the temperature but there was no hurry. We had heard about the incredible sea caves of Croatia - this was not a time to explore them but certainly we had a view no visitor to the cave had that day.
What also stood out as I enjoyed the azure sea and wind in my face - was the beautiful cloud formations against the perfectly blue skies.
However, there was wind in the sails - here we go..........
......no way to stop for this foto............
.....and after many attempts, a straight foto.
Our first pit stop - oops harbour.
The next morning - I thought I was in a Caribbean dream when I saw this view.
After 2 days at sea - we dined at this perfect location; sharing tales of perfect bays, too much or too little wind etc. with our newfound sailing mates.
We also shared more than just our stories - I made this foto of a family at sea.
Did I mention the spectacular sunsets - I called this one "Kissing the sea".
and this one "Firey skies!!"
By the way, we only had 20 Kunas left over - haha. A nice keepsake with all the memories.
Now I must stop dreaming of last year's vacation and get packing for our adventure this year.
