I love a good historical political drama. The show Medici chronicles the rise of the Medici family in 15th century Italy. Over the course of the show, power is shown to move away from the old nobility to those who are rich and well-connected. In a way, the bankers are the new nobility.
There is something satisfying about seeing someone out-wit their rivals. Luckily for me, this happens in every episode of Medici. Sometimes the protagonists come out ahead, sometimes they suffer a setback. Often, there is a defeat in every victory and the seed of victory hidden in defeat. Each maneuver leads to the next in a way that keeps you guessing as to which decisions will ultimately bring victory or ruin.
History contains the greatest dramas. I hope TV shows continue to explore them!
