I don’t consider myself a perfectionist by any means and so you wouldn’t think that making a bone headed error or just a flat screw up would bother me that much but it does. On Monday I found myself having to fix a bone head mistake that I had made earlier, I would tell you when that was if I knew the exact date, but that is half the problem, I don’t know when or how.
The registration on the wife’s van expired at the end of Monday, April 30, 2018 and I planned to run up to the local grocery store to purchase the sticker on Monday morning. The state of Texas send out a renewal notice about 45 days in advance so that you have plenty of time to get your vehicle inspected and to make sure your insurance is up to date. I got that notice, opened it to check and see if the state had raised the fees for this coming year. Then I promptly filed it away until I needed it this morning.
I have one spot where I keep things that need future attention and that would be my computer bag, that way I always have them with me and I know exactly where it is at all times. Monday morning I dug through my computer bag and that damn notice was nowhere to be found. I emptied every last piece of paper and envelope out of the bag and it just was not there. I have a second computer and bag that I only use for doing CAD design drawings so I thought I might have mistakenly placed it in there, nope, I tore everything out of that bag but to no avail.
The envelope from the state with the renewal notice was nowhere to be found and now I have come to the realization that my plan of getting the new registration sticker from the grocery was also lost, they won’t issue a sticker without the current notice of renewal from the state. I had just screwed myself big time.
To compound the problem does anyone remember back last August when Harvey paid a visit to Texas? Yes, that Harvey, with the first name of Hurricane. When Harvey came to visit he just happened to flood out a couple of county buildings that house the tax collector and assessor’s offices. Well that just happens to be the office where I needed to get the registration sticker. Why the county feels they need to put essential offices in a flood plain area is beyond me, but Harris County Texas is notorious for this. I don’t think I have enough fingers to count the number of county offices that are still closed from the hurricane. Just right here in the northern part of the county I know of two court houses, two libraries, and two tax assessor offices and the northern part of the county got the least amount of flooding.
So the only tax assessor office open in our area happens to be in Tomball, TX., you know that little town if you have been with me a while on here as I have featured it at least a couple times in my daily dose columns. That office there is quite small as it was designed basically to just take care of the needs of that little area. Well now because of the other offices being closed it is overwhelmed with people needing to take care of their business with the tax man. The line at 12:20 PM on Monday stretched out the door and down the block and then down the side street a half a block.
Finding a parking space in the area was an adventure all by itself as well, since probably every person in line came by themselves and drove there. I was fortunate enough to find a spot less than a block away. By the time I got in line it was 12:30 PM; when I finally made it to the clerks window to get the registration sticker it was ten minutes before 4:00 PM. I ended up spending my whole afternoon standing in line to get a sticker that should have taken me less than five or ten minutes at the grocery.
That wasn’t the only mistake for Monday and I probably wouldn’t have even mentioned that first fiasco had it not been for another mistake I made on Monday. Up until Monday afternoon I had only ever up voted two of my own posts here on steemit.com , It is just something I don’t do, and I’m not going to debate that or even go into my reasoning for it, if you up vote your own stuff; I have no problem with that. Busy.org up voted one of my posts once without me realizing it, I have never used Busy.org since then to post anything. The other time I just flat clicked the wrong button and instead of looking at who had voted my post up, I ended up voting it up.
On Monday I did another self up vote by accident, I went to up vote a reply to me and inadvertently clicked the up vote clicker on my response and not the one I had responded too. As luck would have it, I had the slider set at 100%, so now I look like a greedy bastard just here for the money. That couldn’t be farther from the truth; as you folks who know me, know.
So, now I have cast three up votes for myself in the seven months I have been on here, so if you happen to notice that up vote I don’t want you to think I have gone rogue or have gotten steem fever, it was just a screw up. Nothing more and nothing less, even I make a mistake every now and then. The funny part to all of this is that someone had just said on Saturday that I’m always right. That might not be the case anymore, but I will be first to admit when I screw up, you have my word on that.
So one of you got shorted by $0.08 in a response, and if you happen to be that person, let me know and I will transfer you $1.00 steem for the effort of finding my mistake.
So, I can officially proclaim 04/30/18 as “Mistake Monday” in the life and times of .
