I had this naive notion that I could use Steemit.com (or actually, Bussy.org). as my main blog/website. I was about to redirect my adetorrent.com domain to /@adetorrent. Why not? Here is where I create content most regularly. I thought these platforms would just improve going forward. It was a perfect idea. I was going to put all my eggs in one basket.
With the recent erratic behaviour of Busy.org and other frontends to the Steem Blockchain, I no longer think that's a great idea. I currently have my domain pointed at my blog on Google's Blogger platform, which is free and fast. It also allows me to use Google Adsense to monetise my blog.
I don't have much traffic on that blog though, so the Adsense revenue is about £1 a month at most - usually much less, so I don't really care that much about Adsense. What I do care about is that it is a clean and very fast platform. Google has a lot of resources so obviously their servers are beefy and can handle any traffic you throw at it.
Going forward, however, I've decided to take more of a control on my content. As such, I will be signing up for my own website (again). I used to have my own website, hosted by Bluehost. I left a few years ago for two reasons. Firstly, it cost way too much after the introductory discount expired. Secondly, the server performance, hence my website, was abysmal! It was great in the beginning, but for some reason my website started taking over 10 seconds to load. Slow loading websites were being penalised by Google Search back then, so my minimal traffic died even more. Also, people are impatient - if a website doesn't load in 2-3 seconds, they're off!
Apparently Bluehost was bought by a conglomerate who, as they do, cut costs and created the terrible experience for the customers. I have been researching recently about Bluehost, and it seems as though things have improved now. Pat Flynn, a popular blogger/entrepreneur who is one of Bluehost's largest affiliates now assures us that the issues are resolved. I don't know if I can trust him or not though, seeing he's an affiliate who makes thousands of dollars from Bluehost monthly from affiliate commissions.
I'm not saying affiliates can't be trusted, I'm an affiliate too, but while I've never made a single dime from Bluehost, Pat Flynn derives a significant portion of his income from his Bluehost commissions.
Are you on Bluehost? Please let me know what your experience is right now. Alternatively, please let me know what provider you're with and if they're any good.
yes, , I know you're a Bluehost affiliate :)
Peace and Love ✌🏿
