On perfect early summers day, two aircraft crossed paths leaving a temporary condensation trail, or contrail in their wake.
There are of course many conspiracy theories surrounding contrails but basically, they are nothing more than water vapour and ice crystals, formed when the hot exhaust gasses from a jet engine condense in wet, cold air.
So why do some go a long time, and others simply quickly fade ?
