After a long time, I finally received another badge for running World Community Grid work units. This time it is gold badge for Mapping Cancer Markers subproject. I'm also close to reaching 100k returned results milestone.
My stats:
Don't know what is BOINC yet? BOINC is a distributed computing platform that allows you to use your computer's unused computing power for research in biology, mathematics, astrology, or other areas of your choice. You can read more about BOINC in one of my previous posts here and more about World Community Grid here.
What Computer Am I Using for Crunching?
- Motherboard MSI Z68A-GD55/G3
- CPU Intel i5-2500k CPU (4.2 GHz OC) cooled with Noctua NH-D14
- GPU HD3000 (integrated on CPU)
- 8 GB Kingston HyperX DDR3 1600 MHz
- 750 W Corsair PSU
- Win 10 Pro
This computer is over 6 years old.
As you can see, I only use an integrated video card. I originally bought and used HD7970 (which was a beast for milkyway@home) for BOINC crunching, but it died last year.
Now, I can run only CPU BOINC work units. However, I am currently saving money for a new computer that I would like to buy at the latest next year.
The i5-2500k has reliably served for years, but the upgrade will soon be needed.
Happy crunching.
