The "Steve Buscemi meme" summarizes perfectly how I felt when I was 8 years old. Well, actually how I saw the whole situation back then.
Our teacher gave us a book called Zika, the Ant Witch(name not related to the virus nor the forest) from a local author. As far as I remember, I liked the story a lot, as most of my classmates. I don't remember too many details, but as far as I remember, the story was about an anthropomorphized female ant who happened to be a witch(Harry Potter style, although it came before the 1st Harry Potter book). The main antagonist was a black and dense cloud called The Great Night who intended to cover the entire world with it's darkness.
Since many students liked the book so much, our school invited the author to speak about the book and answer questions.
So far so good.
That day our teacher gave each of us a sheet with lyrics that was for us to sing later. The author (who happened to be a lady in her 50s) came wearing a cap to the side, talked about the book, answer a few questions and then presented us the Zika's Rap with a portable stereo(the song we got in the beginning). This song was a summary of the story in the book sang in rap format. We sang it a couple times with her. I don't remember many details but as far as I remember, I felt pretty uncomfortable as it seemed too out-of-character to have a rap-themed-presentation. I guess some of my classmates felt the same.
Just why? If she was trying to make a good presentation for the kids, it would be so much better if she came with a pointy-hat or some other wizardy outfit that reference something in the book. As I told before: we liked the book.
Why so many adults in the 1990s had this idea that kids wouldn't like something if it came without a poorly-written-rap-song in it?
It reminds me of the famous animation from the 1990s: Titanic: The Legend goes On... that tried to suck some profit from the James Cameron movie. It came with all the package of what adults thought kids were into, even if they had to shove a rapping dog in it.
