Today September 13th is Roald Dahl's Day since it would have been Roal Dahl's 97th Birthday!
"Those who don't believe in magic will never find it." This is one of my favorite Dahl's Quotes. I really like his writing style widely known by his short stories for children with unexpected endings and touches of macabre, unsentimental and darkly comic moods. My favorites are Matilda, The Witches and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. His works are usually told by the point of view of a child, villains who mistreates children and the good adult who come in his rescue, but also told under an inventive and playful use of the language, a key element to his writing. He would invent new words by scribbling down his words before swapping letters around, children loves that words although it were meaningless because they often sound like a word they know, and he loved using onomatopoeia. For example, you know that something lickswishy and delumptious is good to eat, whereas something uckyslush or rotsome is not definitely not! He knowed wich sounds children loves to say!
Roald was a a great believer in the importance of reading.
