The power of books to hold you enthralled is amazing.
After spending all day yesterday in front of my computer bidding on an online auction, I felt today would be a perfect day to relax and spend a bit of time on five interesting books that I have come across lately. It's a pleasant winter's day here in South Africa, the sun is shining and outside on my Palm tree the weavers are building a nest
The first book is part of a 7 volume set of which unfortunately I have only two. I tried bidding on this set on the online auction but it went far beyond my price range. Maybe in the future thanks to Steemit I might actually be able to afford it.
The book is Volume 2 it's about South Africa's involvement in the second world war. It's title is: East African and Abyssinian Campaigns by Neil Orpen. It is a sought after book and should sell well (Hopefully)
The next book is: Dickens of London by Wolf Mankowitz. Written as a companion volume by Mankowitz to the 1970's Yorkshire TV Series. It describes Dickens early life of poverty and gives a good condensed account of his life and somewhat disastrous emotional life. It is well illustrated with additional colour pictures.
The third book is: The Complete Calligrapher by Emma Callery. a good all round introduction to the dying art of Calligraphy. It is a well illustrated coffee table book, a must for anyone wanting to follow this art.
The fourth book is a rare and highly collectable two volume set of Janet M. Gibson's The Wild Flowers of Natal - Inland and Coastal Region. It is a very useful field guide to the wild flowers of my part of the world.
The last book is once again a real find for the military enthusiast, it is The Profession of Arms by General Sir John Hackett. An informative book with many colour photos told from the view point of an ex military man. In my opinion well worth the read.
Now it is time for a good cup of coffee and something light for lunch, enjoy your day reader and thank you for staying till the end.
