This work's titular novella, At the Mountains of Madness, was originally rejected by the magazine Weird Tales in 1931, on account of its length. It was finally published in serial form by Astounding Stories in 1936, but harshly edited. So harshly in fact, that Lovecraft called the editor a "god-damn'd dung of a hyaena." It was finally published in book form, along with several other stories, in 1951 by Arkham House, based on Lovecraft's hand-corrected copies. This copy is the second printing, from 1968, of which 2,987 copies were printed. A classic of horror and weird fiction, with a striking dust jacket.
