Concept art often allows viewers to take a peek into the future if said item is ever brought into the manufacturing stage. There may be cool concept cars and flying vehicles, but nothing comes close to being as cool as the cruise ship concepts within this video. In fact, these are the Coolest Concept Cruise Ships We Hope Become Reality
#6 - The Boomerang
The massive water faring vessel pictured here is in the shape of a boomerang, but it’s what is inside of this huge monument that will having you coming back for more, as if it really were a boomerang. You can see just how large this “cruise world” is by comparing the cruise ships that are docked next to it. The Boomerang is said to contain enough space to fit three cruise ships as well as several, smaller vessels. Also dubbed “The Floating Ship Terminal,” the Boomerang is home to five million square feet of shopping, dining, and entertainment. Did you hear that?! FIVE MILLION SQUARE FEET!!! Who needs that many choices to choose from? With a super sleek design and plenty of options inside, this is certainly one stop you need to include on your bucket list.
#5 - The City
After looking at the behemoth in this image, it’s hard to explain how this thing could possibly float; it’s just too big. This concept design is called the “Freedom Ship,” and it’s supposed to be the world’s very first floating city. This mile long vessel, yes, a MILE long, and has enough room to house 50,000 permanent residents, several schools, hospitals, art galleries, business parks, a casino, a shopping district, parks, and maybe comically an aquarium! As you can see from this picture, there is an entire airport located on the rooftop of this 25-story floating masterpiece. Although we don’t believe that it would float, this design is so large that it will never be able to dock, anywhere in the world. That means that it will spend its entire life at sea, yet not being anchored or stationed to the bottom of the ocean floor. It is supposed to circle the globe twice each year being powered by solar and wave harnessed energy.
#4 - The Floating Town
Now, the creation pictured here is also referred to as a “floating city,” but after seeing the goliath in the last number, we are more inclined to call this the “David” version when comparing the two. The cruise ship concept seen here is called Atlantis II, and it’s supposed to have all the magic of the lost and forgotten city. As you can see, the entire ship is seemingly composed of one large lido deck. This “floating city” doesn’t compare in size to the Freedom Ship, but, this version does seem to be a lot nicer on the eyes. The downfall of the Freedom Ship’s design is the fact that the entire thing resembles a parking garage, with no greenery in sight.
#3 - The Magic Carpet
The strange connected vessel pictured here does make it look like cruise ships finally got an amusement park upgrade but, this isn’t a ride that seemingly drops you into the ocean, this is part of The Edge, a cruise liner created by Kelly Hoppen. This vehicle in front of you is a signature feature that is about the size of a tennis court. It rides on vertical rails mounted on one side of the ship. It serves as a specialty restaurant at night and will make stops at three other levels during the day. This cruise ship is expected to make her maiden voyage in December of 2018, so get your room booked now, because this is one feature you won’t want to miss.
#2 - The Lilypad
In an effort to combat humanity’s destruction of the planet, designer and concept artist, Vincent Callebaut created the idea of the “Lilypad” to help with the rising sea levels due to global warming. This huge endeavor is meant to hold 50,000 residents a piece, and it is another concept design that isn’t “technically” a cruise ship, since it floats with the sea’s currents. If the designs pictured here actually become reality, they could potentially save the cultures and communities whose lands are being swallowed up by the rising oceans. How awesome would it be to live in such a beautiful place? We might not want to live at sea for our entire lives, but it would be really cool to live on a Lilypad for a few months.
#1 - A Tropical Island Paradise
The ship concept piece pictured here doesn’t have a very large deck, but what it lacks in space, it makes up for by turning a boring ship into a floating tropical paradise. The reason it isn’t as big as one might expect is because the picture you see here is actually of a superyacht design. As you can see, this incredible boat has tiki huts, palm trees, a giant pool and even a waterfall that falls from a volcano, which is fake, of course. Throw all of these unique and interesting features together and you’ve got yourself a vacation we need to sign up for. If you didn’t want to hangout in the paradise of the top deck, you could always spend time in the yacht’s library, game room, cinema, or gymnasium.
