Ah breakbeat, drum & bass' slower cousin!
This is another tune from the "Out Of Our Comfort Zone" EP that was released last year on Electronic Alliance Records where myself and took it upon ourselves to go where we hadn't ventured before.
Genres unexplored being the theme of the EP, today's share goes on what can only be described as a mental bassline trip lol
Back when I was at Uni, I made a start on this one with just a basic laptop and all the basic presets that came with the music software I use - FL Studio.
My keyboard was a long way away and so I had to make do with something called "Piano Roll" which is basically a digital keyboard where you pop the notes in manually by keyboard and mouse. It's not the most exciting way and I much prefer the live recording with editing afterwards to tweak the timings a little bit.
In any case, I stumbled on that main lead synth melody just by using the actual keyboard on the laptop. I quite liked the sound of it and thought, that would go well in a track.
Slowing down the BPM to 140? Sure! Why not?
Having a bassline that just goes stir-fry crazy? Sign me up!
I basically just wanted to see how far I could push the laptop with putting in a load of automation, pattern changes and sidechains... the answer was... surprisingly far!
I think it managed to keep up with all these effects I threw at it with about 60% CPU usage so well done Galaxy Notebook!
A few years later, I migrated to a much more powerful desktop that was like, "you're weak Notebook, I laugh at your 60%, I'm just at 3% mwhahahahah".
Or at least, that's how I imagine the conversation would go between a desktop and laptop...
After polishing up the mixdown, the master came back and blew my face off when the bassline hit so hopefully it has the same effect for you! (I'm not responsible for your face loss lol)
Enjoy!
