Budapest has reemerged as one of the continent's iconic cities, divided by the lilting Danube and connected by the graceful Chain Bridge. On the north side of the Danube sits Buda and on the south side is Pest. The Buda side is considered more traditional and the Pest side more modern. Our cruise ship first arrived in the Budapest area lated in the evening when it was dark, but actually it was the most beautiful time of the day with all the lights highlighting the many famous and beautiful sites....lets explore!
Next we'll explore the Buda side. Here we'll visit the Castle District with it massive hilltop castle complex, the turreted Fishermen's Bastion and beautiful Matthias Church, named for the country's most popular medieval king.
From the heights of Buda Hill, enjoy fantastic views of the Danube and Pest and the famous Chain Bridge, the first span to ever connect the two halves of the city when it opened in 1849.
This is the castle area...
Now for a lunch break on board and to share with you our desert choices:
Now in the afternoon lets explore and enjoy the Pest side of the city....starting with St. Stephen's Basilica:
It was a hot day the ice cream stand tempted us to give it a try...low and behold, the scoops of ice cream were sculptured into flowers!!!
...and the ice cream was delicious!!!
....and the evening meal was in a quaint old neighborhood...and I chose the "Giant Schnitzel"!!! Wow!!!
...and more on the Pest side....
One of the most enjoyable experiences while visiting Budapest was to go to the public Thermal Baths and enjoy a refreshing deep in their curing warm waters...
I hope you all enjoyed the photo journey through Budapest and will put it on your to-do list of future adventures.
Cheers to all Steemians - cnosteem
