Bull racing is a local sport which is famous and played during the Sankranthi season in Andhra Pradesh state of India.
A large boulder weighing around 1-2.5 tonnes is tied to a pair of bulls and the winner is decided how far they drag in a certain period of time, which is usually 5 or 10 minutes.
Ongole in Prakasam District of Andhra Pradesh is famous for its quality of bulls and almost always emerge as winners. It is a pride game and the owners spend $500,000 to $750,000 annually to maintain the bulls. The bulls are fed with healthy food containing horse gram, finger millets, dried coconuts and palm dates.

The calves are trained from very young age and they make their way up the sub junior, junior and ultimately senior level.
This is an exciting event and there is a huge pandemonium in the racing arena.
I attended few bull races mainly to see the quality of bulls however didn’t like the races due to the torture they go through during the races.
