I will write few posts dedicated to online freelancing as and when I feel I want to write about it. You might wonder why I am writing about Online Freelancing?? Well, that is my job. My company, Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) is responsible for driving the digital economy in Malaysia. One of the components in the digital economy is GIG ECONOMY.
My responsibility in the Gig economy are:
To create awareness and educate the industries in Malaysia on the Future of Work and Gig Economy.
To assist and facilitate large corporations in Malaysia in implementing online freelancing.
To recommend strategies and policies that can be used by corporations to address their pain point in adopting online freelancing.
I will not write from the perspective of freelancers because I am not a full-fledged freelancer. Furthermore, I believe there are numbers of Steemians are doing online freelancers and very good at it such as . I believe she put a better story in regards to the freelancing or the digital nomad trend. Let's face it, most bosses have a negative perception of outsourcing jobs to freelancers. Some think that this is new and taboo without even realising that even Fortune 500 companies are starting to adopt platform outsourcing to freelancers. I am writing this post and will continue to write more on this topic to showcase how successful companies using freelancers to create a competitive advantage.
An extensive variety of platforms these days like Upwork, Freelancer, People Per Hour etc, empower organizations to outsource their job specifically starting with freelancers on an on-demand basis. Anyhow, little may be known something like how and what is more the reason organizations would making utilization of freelancer platforms.
There are three dissimilar motivations for business working with freelancer marketplace platform.
It gives straight-forward entry to a scalable workforce, skills, experience and expertise
It reduces labour and hiring costs;
It dispenses with routine hiring obstructions.
Compared to traditional staffing agencies, businesses experience those contracting agility of freelancer coupled with fast work output delivery and when freelancers meet their critical measurements of quality, it instantly creates a value that generates constant demand for these platforms.
Likewise businesses choose to engage freelancers and the platforms, they need to prepare for the challenges which might include: Taking in new hones on adjusting internal work and external work; keeping in-tact the communication costs; Facing inner resistance from the organisations and stakeholders; creating tailor-made answers to address doubts; and making new socio-technical system and infrastructures to support freelancer platform outsourcing.
Key steps that businesses need to adopt freelancer platform transformation including:
- To work out on a pilot project with the platform.
- Fiscal resources allocation.
- Getting buy-in from stakeholders and C-levels within the organisation.
Key Steps before implement Freelance marketplace outsourcing:
- Come up with what work or task to be outsourced to the platform.
- Setup a Freelancer Management System
- Fostering relationships with the freelancers that can eventually lead to your community talent pool.
In the long run, a sustainable ecosystem comprised of business, talent marketplace platform and freelancer will be created. Online freelancing is becoming an alternative employment for skilled workers and could drive organisation to tap into this talent pool for the reliability and sustainability
