Somewhere I saw a clip where someone was singing the words of my title to Miley's Party in the USA and now it's stuck in my head, so I'm sharing the love, hee hee.
People who know me on here are aware I've been side hustling with doordash for the last two years, but recently they've decreased the base rates..a lot.
I work in a college town (Cornell University and Ithaca College), and while it's busy most of the year thanks to the 25-35 thousand extra kids that descend upon it...they are kids. And they were never taught how to tip.
So combine the lower rates (2.50 up to seven miles one way) with much higher gas prices, add shitty tippers... and the extra income is not quite as worth it. Particularly since Ithaca has the worst roads in NY state, (if you don't include seasonal ones), which is really hard on a vehicle.
There are still periods where it's worthwhile, when DD puts on incentives, but definitely not the cash cow it once was.
So.
I've started something else.
Something that has a pretty steep learning curve for a very simple chic like myself.
Clothing resale.
It's kind of hilarious actually, because until last week the only names in fashion I was familiar with were a few of the big designer labels like Gucci and Prada, the ones where you'd have to be living under a rock to not have heard of them. And some mall brands like American Eagle- same deal.
But I learned of something called a Goodwill outlet center- not Goodwill thrift store, that I'm Well acquainted with- but a place where they throw all the clothes that didn't sell at their retail locations into bins and sell the items by the pound.
And wow, the things that get passed over! Now of course there's lots of junk and it's work to sort through it all, but damn if there isn't some seriously expensive items mixed in.
It's like a used clothes and accessories treasure hunt!
Enter hubby and his serious logo making skills and Bam, I have a new business.
Right now I'm in the learning phase of this venture. First I checked out some wholesale outlets for products, found that I could easily double and triple my money just doing it that way, but now I'm researching online outlets where you set up your own retail store within their sites for a fee..and that's where the real moula is once you know what you're doing.
So wish me luck and I'll be sure and update you on the progress of APPARELZ NY!
