Sure, content marketing has exploded in the last decade, and it’s one of the biggest buzzwords in the industry right now. But things don’t stay the same in this industry, and what was once king can easily be thrown of the throne by a new ruler.
The fact is, every dog has its day, and content marketing is no less susceptible to this than any other thing in the world. When everyone is content marketing and the market is flooded with content of varying quality, people get tired of it.
People get tired of writing it as much as people get tired of reading it. So, now we’re at the stage where people are looking at the next big thing – the thing that shakes the whole industry up while also providing a ton of value to the people who are reading it.
Instead of focusing on words written, articles posted, page views, shares, all that kind of dull metric talk, why not focus on what is increasingly becoming the true “next big thing” – interactivity? People are tired of one-sided content.
They want to engage and be a part of the content. Social media shows how people love to get involved – and if you can find a way to make your marketing interactive – through quizzes or whatever – then you’ll be ahead of the curve.
The most important thing you can do is not to stop content marketing because it’s dead – but instead to look towards the future and your own content marketing strategies to see how you can evolve them, to make them more interactive, and to give the consumers what they need most – information – in a format that engages them.
