I think people have to first NEED/WANT your product before you start to consider if they'll LIKE your product.
Testing is absolutely important at every stage from the moment you have the idea all through till you finally put it out.
Most people tend to forget that they are creating these products for the people not themselves, and these people should be given the opportunity to try it out and shape the development.
