Timber
A lumber-jack i met online few months ago showed me some of this pictures of the processes involved in processing woods for commercial and domestic purposes, i was like; wow, this is a serious business. And ever since i have been thinking of all the things that wood can do in our everyday lives.
The wood industry or lumber industry is a - usually private - economic sector concerned with forestry, logging, timber trade, and the production of forest products, timber/lumber, primary forest and wood products (e.g. furniture) and secondary products like wood pulp for the pulp and paper industry......Wikipedia
.....Wood undoubtedly is an essential entity in human life, i want somebody to dispute my statement in the comments below; tell us how you have not used it or touch it today!
That been cleared, i will like to mention the things we use daily involving wood:
Your bed, my bed frame is made of wood, except if you sleep on the bear floor.
Your dinning set is made of wood, or maybe you have a dinning set made of glass or metal.
What about your sofa or couch? What are they made of, Rubber?......No!
Your office desk, doors, shelves etc are made of wood.
Okay you think you are smart enough not to know that the toilet rolls and papers you use are made of wood right?
Your car dash-boards, your gear, the spoiler on your car trunk are made of woods.
The plastic and rubbers you use comes out of wood........Case close!
Essentially, this is just a reminder of a diversity in our economies as the cases may be. Some Town and Cities major source of income is from Timber production.
Wood Energy
Aside from furniture making and for buildings, wood is a major source of energy. The chart above shows the countries utilizing wood energy and the level of consumption, it is very accurate to say it is another gift of nature to humanity. Before fossil fuels came into existence, coals from wood were used for many purposes.
Renewable Energy and Mandates
Wood energy’s role in modern energy usage is often understated. Its renewable energy designation has made wood fuel a popular choice for countries seeking to meet specific renewable energy targets. The near-doubling of EU wood energy consumption since 1990, for example, is often attributed to the “20-20-20 by 2020” directive set by the European Parliament and the Council of the European Commission. Officially known as Directive 20009/28/EC, this policy requires that 20 percent of the total primary energy supply of participating countries comes from renewable sources, alongside a 20 percent increase energy efficiency and a 20 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by the year 2020......United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) region.
We can not emphasize more on the economical contribution of wood in any nation of the World. Therefore, this form of occupation is one of the ancient and the best from time immemorial till the present days and into the future.
