Hello steemians! First off, I would like to thank for his contest, from which 11 other minnows and I were each delegated 500 SP for 1 month. In the spirit of paying forward his act of kindness, I and a few other steemians;
,
,
,
,
and
(sorry if I forgot someone), have decided to start a small curation project called "Great Lakes".
Aim:
We realise that we all come from different cultures, speak different languages and that sometimes English isn't our strong suit. Unfortunately Fortunately, it is the language one should use to maximise their chances of succeeding on steemit, and I do believe it is one of the easiest/ fastest languages to use if you put in time and effort. And what better way to improve than by translating your own content, which you had already spent hours searching and meditating? None in my opinion.
Our goal is primarily to curate languages from the Great Lakes region but we welcome anybody to join the movement, we will still curate them as long as the post is in English, French or one of our local languages.
Team:
We have and
for Swahili,
and
for the local languages from Uganda and
and myself for Kinyarwanda.
Also for those interested, is willing to give weekly English lessons from one of
's servers and
has also volunteered to teach markdown so, yaaay!
How it will work:
It's pretty simple actually, you post good quality content(can't be plagiarised or just a photo) in your native tongue, depending on it's interactions and/or our team members decisions you get splurged with a few upvotes. Then you translate that post to English and voila!
The people that will be getting the shares are the ones that will have improved the most with their English translated content, and/or with their markdown skills within that week.
Note: We realise "good content" is subjective which is why we would like steemians to point us to articles they enjoyed by linking them in the comment section.
Rewards:
You know it wouldn't be steemit if your efforts weren't rewarded. Each week I will be gifting 1 participant that showed the most improvement with a steembasicincome share. On a daily basis I will also be rewarding 1 or 2 poems that is/are the most appreciated by the community with my vote(s) from the @poetsunited subscription package which currently sits at 0.1$ and is still increasing.
We encourage steemians to occasionally check out the tag and reward the content they enjoy. Even 0.01$ can make somebody's day, specially us minnows.
Tag:
The tag that will be used is #greatlakes. Shout-out to for suggesting the name
Reasoning behind the idea:
I believe that we should all be able to leave traces of our cultures and languages on this blockchain. I also think that if this type of project existed within the different communities on steemit, it could help with the retention problem steemit is facing since many leave because they feel they can't compete in English and that their native tongue has no place here.
Duration:
Normally this initiative should last 30 days 27 days, but after that anyone willing to pick up from where we will be is most welcome. I hope that after that time those participating will have gained some more knowledge and confidence in their posts.
We plan on soon launching a Discord server and we'll also be sharing weekly crypto related news courtesy of 's #crypto-help channel. So stay tuned for the updates.
As we're just getting started, we welcome all suggestions and opinions on what would make us more efficient with our time and resources.
And if you like what we are trying to accomplish feel free to upvote and resteem this post to help spread the word. It would be highly appreciated! :)
Thanks for the read, wish y'all a blessed week and until next time, PEACE!!
