We're in a region called San Martín de los Andes which is home to the Mapuche people. A lot of them are working in tourism including running camping sites, but there is still a strong culture that exists.
The houses in Patagonia don't have modern heating so there was plenty of cutting down trees to provide warmth. Despite being basic, you can't beat the natural environment and incredible views.
The native Mapuche language has almost completely died out, but the area still retains a lot of its other traditions. One of the houses we visited still had its original cooker and utensils.
