Wakeboarding
or wakeboarding (often just wake, from English wakeboard: wake - wake, board - board) - an extreme sport that combines elements of water slalom, acrobatics and jumps. Wakeboarding has a similarity with snowboarding, skateboarding and surfing. One of the developing sports and recreation.
In wakeboarding, there are two disciplines: wakeboard-boat and wakeboard-electric (cable wakeboarding). In boat wakeboarding, the athlete goes to the boat, holding on to the halyard, and performs various tricks with the help of a traveling wave and springboards.
In cable wakeboarding, the athlete's movement along the water takes place by means of a mechanized rope-towing installation replacing the boat. There are ring installations, where the motion occurs in a circle (wake-parks), and reversible settings, where the movement of the athlete is possible only forward and backward.
In Europe, cable wakeboarding is much more developed than the boat wakeboard, due to its availability and environmental friendliness. More than 100 wake-parks have been built on the territory of Europe, in Russia there are only 11 wake-parks and a lot of reverse self-made cable towing machines. In the wake-parks on the water surface, springboards and other floating or stationary figures are placed on which the athletes enter while circling.
The boat, moving at a speed of 29-38 km / h with additional ballast on board, leaves behind a wave that the skier uses as a springboard for the jump. In jumping you can perform many different tricks.
Swedish company Radinn has developed a board for surfing and wakeboarding, capable independently, without a boat, to accelerate to a speed of 46 km / h due to the built-in electric motor, which is powered by lithium batteries. The board is made of carbon fiber, thanks to which the total weight of Radinn is relatively small - 29 kg. When using an electric motor at full capacity, the battery reserve lasts 30 minutes.
