I work in an industry that is in decline. Our company was purchased a couple years ago by a global manufacturer which made us a direct operation. The owner of the company stayed on with a three year contract to handle the transition. This is how they commonly handle it.
For the first couple years, little changed. Even after the company tried to put pressure on our organization, it was basically refuted. The owner was not about to be told what to do and felt he knew better than those in corporate. His contract expired in October and was not renewed.
His replacement started in December and this guy is a corporate dude. He toes the company line and is one who will hit whatever number they give him. He is a positive outlook guy who believes he will figure out how to get to whatever they set out for him.
The challenge with this is he exerts a great deal of pressure on the entire organization. This is a radical shift from before. Many employees are long tenured meaning they are not accustomed to this. A few already left.
As an industry in transition, at best, or in decline, at worst, many of the long time employees are fortunate to see the end of the road. They only have to hang on a few more years and then ride off. Of course, there are those who are not so close with another 10-15 years until retirement is even a thought. I find myself in the later.
Needless to say, the first 4 months of the year saw a lot of upheaval. Many are nervous about what is taking place.
This morning, I was with my boss who is on edge himself. He asked me how I could be so calm about things. Part of the reason, which I did not share, is because I know I can walk into any of our competition and get a job in a few days. That part does not worry me.
The answer I did give to him is "that I am in cryptocurrency".
He knew from past conversations that I am involved in this yet it is something he does not grasp. I think he was taken aback that I was kind of smiling when I said that. It was not a line to deliver to him; it is something I truly believe.
I feel I put myself in a position that will release me from a great deal of financial pressure. I am fully intent on taking advantage of the early adopter status to radically alter my future as compared to my co-workers. While they are wrought with the fear of what to do, I know I have a plan. We will see how it works out since the Crypto-Winter was kind to none of us. However, it is something that I feel is a good place for any of us to be.
A year or two ago, this seemed like an absurd statement. Perhaps there are many who feel this way now considering we are mired in a bear that is closing in on a year and a half old. Nevertheless, with the progress of blockchain technology, I feel we are at the starting point of something really big.
Time will tell if this is a foolish outlook. However, when we look at the possibilities of what is being created, it becomes fairly obvious we are sitting atop a technology that is going to change how society operates. The only question is how long it will take.
My view changed a great deal in the last 18 months. While I was optimistic about all of this at that time, it is good to see a lot of it coming to fruition. We are seeing the development advancing to the point where real solutions are being provided. Implementation is still rather scarce at this point but that will not always be the case.
So how can I be so calm about things: Because I am into cryptocurrency!!!
