Random Thoughts About Our Current Situation:
Many discussions on internal Steem issues continue to carry on and I think they always will. What is "Value Adding Content"? What is a CircleJerk, who gets to decide?
If one small circle of users is deciding what is a circle jerk, isn't that just a new circle jerk?
Consensus comes when we all just upvote what we like, downvote what we think is harmful and ignore the rest.
My vision has always been attract and retain users to the Steem Social Economy, if you let them post discuss and yes, even earn a bit they will come back and when someone builds a cool game like Splinterlands, they (we) will play it. Add more people, more games and less fighting and the community will grow.
I stand by my view that there are more people in the world interested in casual engagement than competing in an Author's Guild Site and while we are struggling in the current market space, it seems to me that a more savvy route to go right now would be welcoming new users of all talents into the fold. I am only one opinion though, and I do not demand you accept my vision.
Fair is about perspective. From a content point of view we could argue for a 100 years over what adds value and what doesn't. From a stake point of view the argument is that it isn't fair that those that hold stake are required to upvote those who don't. Most of us if being objective could see the fairness argument in both sides.
The value is in the eyes on the site. Eyes on the site creates Demand.
Whether you want to burn, downvote, curate or buy and sell Steem we have no universal vision and we have not set any agreed upon Standards. With communities and SMTs coming soon, most of these arguments will be mute soon.
Do you think Youtube.com doesn't have circle jerks? The music industry? Known Authors and their publishing houses? Somewhere out there is someone who thinks their content is better than Stephen King and he is muttering to himself about how unfair it is that Stephen King's books get published every time. I am sure there are artists that have more talent than many famous singers.
Some don't care about Steem as a topic and guess what, I don't read recipes or get excited over photograph lighting. I value those who do.
It takes the right combination of Talent, Timing, Networking and maybe luck.
