Whenever I look at this BW photo, it is almost as if each stone is eager to tell a historic story!
One look at the building and I could not resist taking a picture.
Agrasen ki Baoli' ( A step well) is a historic building nested right in the heart of New Delhi city. Supposedly built in 10-14th century, this building has survived the ravages of time and seen the bustling modern city of New Delhi grow right around it through centuries. It is hard to believe that within a mile of this ancient building, a major commerical hub area of Delhi buzzes with activity - with no regard to this gem from the past.
The step well is roughly 60 meters long and 15 meters wide, with multiple levels from ground level, going down below ground. In olden days, it was a source of water and perhaps also a place for weary travellers to rest in the niches built at each level.
I hope this building gets visited by many people and it's inner voice, laced with history, is heard by many.
