California Coast Redwoods
Entry #1 - I shot this group of California Coast Redwoods in Boulder Creek, CA. Walking among these trees you feel a majesty as if you are entering a gothic cathedral walking on hallowed ground. Their scientific name is Sequoia sempervirens and they are the tallest trees in the world and I'm guessing probably the solar system too!!
Joshua Tree
Entry #2 - Joshua Trees are exclusively found in the Western United States within the Mojave desert at elevations from 2000 to 6000 feet. I shot this beauty in California about a half day drive away from the Redwoods on the coast. Its scientific name is Yucca brevifolia and it received its common name, Joshua, from Mormon missionaries who thought it resembled the prophet Joshua with outstretched arms praising god.
Teddy Bear Cholla
Entry #3 - The Teddy Bear Cholla is not so nice to cuddle unless you are wearing some armor. Its also known as the Jumping Cactus because it is so prickly that if you bump into it you would swear that it attacked you! I shot this photograph in the Mojave Desert in California where it lives among the Joshua Trees! Its scientific name is Cylindropuntia bigelovii.
I shot all these photographs with my iPhone 6S Plus. These are my 3 entries for the #bwphotocontest (plants)
