My wife and I bought this really cool rural property here in southeast Iowa. It was the Rock Island railroad, part of the famed Golden State Route that cut a path from Chicago to Los Angeles. This section of track and the bridge was completed in 1947, and operated until the time the Rock Island filed bankruptcy, somewhere around 1979-80. The track and bridge was removed in 1982.
We bought the property with the intent to build a house in a clearing in the timber. However, in the mean time, I am considering using the old concrete bridge structure in a creative way. I intend to design a tiny home that will be mounted atop this solid structure. The view is incredible from the top. It will feel much like a treehouse, only it will be anchored into concrete that will outlast the human race.
So allow me some time, but I will have design specs drafted before too long. And should I see this project come to life, I may offer it for nightly rentals!
