One this episode of Walk with Zeke, I share with you an adventure in Awenda Provincial park https://www.ontarioparks.com/park/awenda/camping. I will let the pictures do most of the talking but I gotta tell a bit of a story.
I have been to dozens of provincial parks for camping and canoeing but I have a hundred yet to visit before I am done. This is one I have been to in the past and was happy to return with the family.
I made sure to have the camera ready as I remembered how long the road was between the gate and the park office. Probably a couple miles more on a long journey but we have arrived.
It is such a welcome sight when you arrive here and see the hardwood forest. So many of the other parks are jammed with pine trees which is not bad, but gives you an appreciation for the oaks and maples keeping guard.
It took me many years of camping to realize how much I love to sit beside the fire and look straight up. When I started to point my camera up to share the view, I found myself transported back to that moment when reviewing the pics.
Speaking of camp fires, I know I have been hanging with
A little from column Beer and a little from column Cannabis, I gave these babies a try after a visit to https://spiritleaf.ca/locations/stratford/? To be honest, the alcohol free beer tasted like you would expect and 5 mg of THC and CBD is only enough to give my dog a buzz but all in the name or exploration and adventure!
I followed that up with a beer (and a half!) from Broken Rail Brewing https://www.brokenrailbrewing.ca/ Why does a cold one dented from its battle in the cooler taste so damn good in the camping mug?
What I like most about this park is the beach. It looks north across Georgian Bay to the place where part of the glacier finally stopped. The rock that it transported from way up north while scraping the Canadian Shield is fascinating. I get a magical sense of time and all it took to get to this fleeting moment.
There is so much hiking to be done at the park as well. All through the camp sites, through the woods and along each of the 4 separate and distinct beaches. As you may gather from the title image, I love a good perspective shot of a path. This one was a nice wooden one apparently constructed years ago and holding up well in the damp forest.
The textures are everywhere. This ruddy grey coarseness could appear to be stone at a quick glance. It is actually one of the hardwood trees that stand like sentinels in the old forest.
The native flora seems happy to be huddling under the tall trees and sip in the sunshine that occasionally leaks through the canopy.
This little sprout caught my eye as it looks a little like hops you might put in beer!
Even the old dog seems to be enjoying the experience. We have a mat laid out for her but she prefers to recline right on the ground with the brush and leaves. She has been on dozens of trips with us and hopefully will be able to make a few more before she is done.
The sun has finally gone down on this adventure and I leave you with my view beside the fire. The tent is lit up for the application of pyjamas and the last of the embers are warmly sizzling as I enjoy a fireside drink and live in the moment at Awenda.
Thanks for joining me on this camping adventure. Maybe we can do this in person next time you are in my part of the world?
