I am writing this from my hospital bed. Just had my prostate gland (PG) removed, because it was enlarged. For the less informed the signs of an enlarged prostate, usually in men over 50, manifest themselves in having difficulty passing urine, dribbling at the end, a continuous urge to urinate, taking forever to get it done, and really bad sleeping patterns. The urethra runs through the PG and because the PG is enlarged it closes around the urethra.
Of course prostate cancer could also be the cause of an enlarged PG. Prostate Cancer is not uncommon amongst older men and in fact my urologist who has in excess of 5000 clients reckons that by far the majority of men over 80 have prostate cancer.
Well now mine is out and a biopsy was taken for testing so i will know in a few days if it is malignant or benign.
So blood tests which urologist seldom take seriously because they can be misleading are perhaps a starting point. But I would highly recommend, no hang on, URGE you, if you are a male over the age of 40 to visit a urologist and undergo a digital examination. Yea sure guys it is kinda embarrassing but wouldn't you rather know that not know. Takes all of 15 seconds.
The op is quite straight forward with three days for recovery and no cuts or stitches.
Anyway I am relieved I can now look forward to peeing over my neighbours wall again like I did as a kid.
Fun to some revolting to others pic posted below taken a few hours after the op.
I am seriously relieved and looking forward to a much improved quality of life.
