It is not easy to care with people who has cancer. In the Philippines more Filipinos are suffering from this mega disease and mostly 50% are dying due to lack of support financially and emotionally. How do we aid cancer in our family? Can we aid cancer? Is there a chance in curing them even without a help? What are the support that a family member can provide?
To formally enlighten you my dad was diagnose with stage 4 lung cancer last February 2022. It wasn't easy for us — the amount of pressure and stress creeping was and still in our bothering. My dad felt a little pain near in his liver portion. We thought before it was due to too much drinking alcoholic drinks. Yes! My dad was an occasional drinker, but it wasn't an issue for us family.
Later did we know the pain grows much painful. We decided to see an oncologist— there he was positive in non small cell lung cancer and his undergoing targeted therapy.
This new way of treating cancer is a hassle free towards patient and has a larger success rate of 80% for lung cancer alone, compare to chemo that has only 30% success rate. The therapy is an intake medicine method which you need first to undergo tests before allowing you to undergo therapy.
When my dad started drinking the prescribed medicine (ERVIX) by his oncologist the result amazed us. The lump at his back reduce and he can now sleep well at night. He can also ride a bike and do some household chores.
After months of taking the pill my dad is much more okay compare before without any therapy. But, the question did we aid his cancer?
I did some research and found out lung cancer is the first leading deadliest cancer in the world. About 1 in 13 men gets this cancer. The survival rate is much lower compare to other type of cancer. Back to the question— normally in a family we look for holistic approach when someone get sick. We combined medical stand to holistic approach. Its not a sin doing such thing like this. For the welfare of our dad this is a step we must try.
Holistic way
Holistic approach is providing a support in total well being of a person. Taking care from physical, mental and spiritual function. In medical field perspective Doctors doesn't agree with holistic approaches and I dont want you to educate about it, but mere fact that my dad still coping from this disease and fighting to survive— any cure that will aid the pain will grab it and try, with his and his oncologist approval of course.
Diet
We started from changing his diet entirely. From avoiding pork, dark/red meat, crops, foods with carbohydrates, foods with sugar, foods with so much amino acids and fruits that aren't citrus.
When you start your own program in taking care the entire meal of the patient with cancer don't forget to ask first your Doctor. This will help you also to understand the component in every meal. Don't worry guys, I will share to the full meal plan in different blog post.
Stress Free Environment
Not that stress itself can cause cancer. When you are stress you are prone in binging, smoking or any cancer causes behavior. The environment should be neat and calm. The way you approach the family member with cancer should with manners and light in talking. People with cancer are most likely irritable and moody. We should understand this phase specially to elders.
Try putting some fancy decors in your house or ornamental plants to add up life in a dead corner. Encourage the patient to go outside the garden area or any places with peaceful scenery.
Believing in Him.
I know sounds cringy, but internal intervention may helped aiding cancer. By believing religiously you will felt relieve and distress. As I mention earlier free stress helps patients avoid behavioral cancer causes.
"Cancer won't kill us. Accidents and fall... well do."
There's a comment in a Lung Cancer Support Group that stated "Cancer won't kill us. Accidents and fall from stairs well do." It was a funny comment bout when you think about it. When you provide a total care with them you will prolong their lives and possible stop the agony of dying early.
It is not easy to take care with a cancer patient. There are a lot of times you want to stop or let them do what they want, but if your really are eager to do this and really wanted to help. Then there's no excuse in doing it. The love is more eternal than any other and by believing with the holy spirit you will surely be able this with ease.
There are a lot of support groups that are really helpful. Just don't afraid to ask for help. If financially you cannot provide, then there are programs in government or in a non government organization that funding cancer patients treatment.
