Hi friends ! I hope you are well ?
Summer is fast approaching, it's great, but flies too ... There's nothing more annoying than stealing flies in the house, don’t you think? The worst is when we watch TV in the evening and they come to rest on us, grrrrr !
I looked for a natural way to get them to flee and get them out of the house to annoy my neighbors.
I read that they did not like the smell of lavender and I had dried lavender that a colleague brought me from the market to make tea but I really did not appreciate the when I drank it, I thought I would use the rest of the lavender to make a candle.
I had previously bought natural beeswax pellets and wicks. I also kept empty Nutella pots to use as a container.
Here are the different steps for making natural lavender candles without toxic products:
First stage :
Prepare the material: the locks, the wax, the lavender, the containers, a pan and a spoon to mix.
Second step :
Melt the wax and lavender, be careful not to put the hob too hot, if the wax begins to boil there is a risk of splashing and therefore severe burns !
Third step :
Pour liquid wax mixed with lavender into the jars.
Fourth step:
The most complicated, keep the wicks in the center of the candle. I improvised at the last minute with hangers like Mc Gyver but I admit that it was not ideal. I think with two pieces of wood or even chopsticks, it can be easier to fix the wick.
Fifth step:
Stir regularly until the wax cools and freezes as the lavender tends to float and so to rise to the surface. For it to be homogenous, you have to stir from time to time to bring down the lavender.
Last step :
Let cool, cut off the excess wick and close the candle while waiting to light it.
I lit one of the candles I made yesterday because there were some flies in the house and they left ;o) So, I was able to leave the bay window open, it's still nice not to have to shut up while it's nice outside.
I hope this article has you more. Of course, you can add anything you want in the wax to perfume. Also know that flies did not like the smell of basil but personally I prefer the smell of lavender. The basil I keep it to put in my tomato salad or to make pesto ; o)
Have a good day my friends !
