I do agree that capitalism has short-termism. Despite what a lot of us think about "the government," I think it has funded some long term projects that had great benefit to society. I'll mention computers in the 40s, the space program in the 60s, the ethernet (internet) in the 80s, human genome project in the 90/00s. Maybe long term projects like this will be done in a better way in the future, but they were done with government support in the past and some things worked out well.
