Thanks to I was made aware of a self proclaimed "anarchist" Pëtr Kropotkin who wrote Mutual Aid: A Factor of Evolution
There is a nice quote in this that says:
"We all know that without uprightness, without self-respect, without sympathy and mutual aid, human kind must perish, as perish the few races of animals living by rapine, or the slave-keeping ants. But such ideas are not to the taste of the ruling classes, and they have elaborated a whole system of pseudo-science to teach the contrary."
Yes without capitalism many of us would perish or struggle greatly.
I think if you do believe in capitalism then I think you would have to believe in mutual aid a fundamental basis of capitalism.
Theoretically we could survive as individuals but we as a society benefit from mutual aid. When you conduct a transaction under capitalism it does have a fundamental basis in mutual aid. You do not work as a wage slave unless you feel it benefits you as a "greedy" employee and your boss does not hire you unless he feels it benefits him as a greedy employer. Hence mutual aid.
