When I look at auction sites, I always like to find cars that I know little or nothing about like this 1952 Frazer Nash Mille Miglia that will be on sale on November 5th in London by RM Sotheby's. There will also be a very nice collection of Gran Turismo cars but this car caught my eye to know more about the British manufacturer Frazer Nash.
It's cool that at the same time as this sale, the London to Brighton Veteran Car Run, the oldest automotive event in the world, is taking place. This is its 126th edition and it features classic cars from all over the world. It must be really interesting to participate to see all its wonders.
History of Frazer Nash Mille Miglia
Let's start with the English car manufacturer Frazer Nash that I didn't know. It was founded in 1922 by Archibald Frazer-Nash, engineer who worked in the automotive and aerospace industries and Henry Ronald Godfrey to produce lightweight sports cars. In 1929, the company was taken over by the Aldington brothers who used their experience with BMW to improve production with the help of former BMW technical director Fritz Fiedler. The BMW 328 was the basis for the new models.
The tubular chassis of the Mille Miglia was designed by Fiedler then bodied by Carrozzeria Touring, the famous Italian coachbuilder. This example (chassis 421/100/168) was produced in 1952 and presented at the Turin Motor Show in 1952. Only 11 examples were produced. After several owners in the US and a big accident in 1975, the car was only restored by Leitch Motorsport & Restoration in 2004 in New Zealand. This car has traveled more than I have 😀.
Specification
The Frazer Nash Mille Miglia, a 2-seater open sports car with a full-width body, is powered by a BMW-derived 2.0-liter 6-cylinder engine developing between 110 and 126 hp with a **top speed of 190kmh (120 mph).
This model is finished in its original color Bristol Maroon over grey leather. Beautiful little car.
Did you know this model and this car manufacturer? And what do you think of it?
