History of Abarth 2000 Sport
Abarth has a very large fan base (including me) thanks to his production of car components but especially for it production of very competitive racing cars. And this car is a good example. The Abarth 2000 Sport (known internally as the SE010) was a racing car produced between 1968 and 1969 at only 50 examples. The car was homologated in order to participate to the FIA Group 4 with a lot of successes including victory in its class at the 1971 1000 km of Monza or all the podium at the 1968 500 km of the Nürburgring.
This example (chassis number SE010-0018) was bought by the French driver Alain Finkelstein in 1969 in order to participate to hill-climb races with Finkelstein behind the wheel then with the Maublanc Racing team.
Specification
The Abarth 2000 Sport is equipped with 2000cc four-cylinder 16-valve engine mated to 2 Weber 58 DCO3 carburettors producing 250 hp at 8,700 rpm. It can reach 270 kmh / 168 mph. And respecting the Abarth tradiction, the engine is hung out the back.
More about the spec on ultimatecarpage.com.
The design comes from the earlier Abart 1000 or SE04 with a tubelar chrome-molybdenum chassis with double laminated fibreglass panels for only 575 kg. This model was restored in 2016 keeping all its original components. Very nice job respecting the history of this car.
Ready to do some laps behind the wheel of this Abarth ?
