Another great car on Bring a Trailer aka BaT, the online auction platform is offering up this sizzling 1972 BMW 3.0 CS 5-Speed, currently bid up to $US 80,000 with two days left on the clock.
I thought I had already talked about this model but I didn't (well, I couldn't find anything in my archives 😀). This is the perfect opportunity to know more about this model and the coachbuidler Karmann.
History of BMW 3.0 CS
The BMW 3.0 CS is a model of the series BMW E9, two-door coupés produced between 1968 and 1975. The bodywork was designed by Karmann. Maybe less known than the Italian coachbuilders, the German automobile manfactuer was founded in 1901 by Wilhelm Karmann and collaborated with Chrysler, Porsche, Mercedes, Volkswagen and BMW. The company closed in 2010.
Beautiful lines...
In 1968, the first model of the series was the 2800 CS with its 2,788 cc engine. In 1971, the engine is upgraded by 2,788 cc. The BMW 3.0 CS was born. But the most famous car of this series is the 3.0CSL, the very successful racing car in the European Touring Car Championship and the Deutsche Rennsport Meisterschaft. Thanks to this car, BMW has made a name for itself in motorsports with in 1973, first place in the European Touring Car Championship with Toine Hezemans behind the wheel.
Specification
This 1972 BMW 3.0 CS is equipped with a rebuilt 3.0L M30 engine mated to a five speed manual transmission. It produces 180 hp at 5,500 rpm.
The car is finished in Baikal Metallic over a red leather interior. Beautiful interior with all these details, especially the old AM/FM cassette radio 😀 I like the wooden knob.
Interested in this iconic BMW or not at all ?
For me, I see it well in my garage although I find the price a bit high, I already see this model selling for half the price (but maybe the condition was less good).
