Race Red used to attend all the big and small car shows in the UK but that came to an end when we moved to France.
I have still been doing some car shows, taking the Porsche 911 but just not been posting.
My first French car show.
Notice the machine gun sticking out of this war time Citroen grill.
Not a great amount of difference except for the range of cars and the music. They really like rock and roll.
Almost all shows over here are free and interesting cars allowed to enter, also bikes.
Because of the restrictions the French government imposed on French car manufacturers after the war a lot of older cars have small engines and many are air cooled because of this. They did however put their development into other things to tempt potential buyers, like power steering and auto windscreen wipers etc.
This is the Maserati Citreon SM. A V6 2.6l 170-190 bhp powered car. The first to have a glued windscreen and resin wheels to reduce unsprung weight. It had all round disc brakes which were inboard. The hydro pneumatic suspension also provided control over the brakes to keep the car level during braking. The headlights were also hydraulically controlled to remain level with the road at all times. The outside lights followed the steering.
The winner of the show was this Facel Vega facellia, a small version of the Facel 11 with a 115hp 4 cylinder engine. 1961-63.
This Renault 5 Turbo 2 (sitting next to my Porsche) was a crazy rear engined 200hp hot hatch of it's time. 130mph(210kph) top end.
Opel GT
Renault Alpine A310.
Peugeot 302 1936-38. 1.6l 43hp
More to follow.
