The year 1985 was extraordinary for all the petrolheads because the BMW started the production of powerful large sedans, named - M5.
Let's see the history before the latest version:
E12 (age before M)
The first BMW model named the 5-Series was the E12, produced from 1972 to 1981.
For this generation, there wasn't the M model, but we could mention the strongest version, just for historical reasons.
M535i, had I6 engine, 3.5 l, 210 hp and 310 Nm
Stronger versions came from Alpina, named B7 and B7 Turbo, with 300 and 330 PS respectively!
E28, The First M
The first M5 came in 1985 and it was produced until 1987.
The engine was l6, 3.5 l, with 280 hp for European market and 252 for USA market due to ecology.
Acceleration time 0-100 km/h was 6.5 s.
E34, Powering Up!
From my perspective, one of the cars with the best proportions is certainly E34.
Production started in 1989 and ended in 1995.
Models from 1989 to 1991 were equipped with 3.5 L I6 engine that produced 315 PS.
Later the displacement was increased to 3.8 L, and the power reached 340 PS.
Acceleration times were very good even by today's standards, from 5.9 to 6.3 depending on the market.
The interior was also very nice and futuristic.
I like the buttons and screens...
E39, future classics
Produced from 1998 to 2002, E39 became the golden standard in the limousine class, sorry Mercedes E.
Power came from 5.0 Liter engine with 400 PS.
Speed was traditionally limited to 250 km/h, and the acceleration took 5.3 s.
Fortunately, we have the Nordshleife time for it: 8:28, a bit slower than XKR, and a bit faster than Exige!
Launch Control Ready - E60
This model came in my adolescent years, produced from 2005 to 2010.
The engine was again 5 Liter but now it came with 507 hp.
The acceleration times came under 5 s (4.7 and 4.8 s for the limousine and break).
Nordschleife time was astonishing: 7:52, or to put the things into the perspective, just between the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 and Aston Martin V12 Vantage S, in a boxy 4-seeter!
3 Versions of F10
F10 came with 4.4 LiterV8 (how dare you BMW!), in normal mode with 560 PS, as the Competition (575 PS) and as 30 Jahre Edition with 600 HP.
Acceleration times were 4.3 4.2 and 3.9 s.
Surprisingly, it wasn't faster than the previous M5
Future with F90
The last version is difficult to describe with the words but it produces 600 PS, 750 Nm and tooks 0-100 km/h in 3.4 s.
I want it...
