A while back for my car website Driveanotherday I would trawl through Gumtree for the most interesting ads. Usually it'd be some terrible wreck of a car that was barely holding on for dear life with oil flowing out with great speed around every corner or patched together with race tape - and people still wanted decent money for something that would kill you instantly at speeds over 20kph.
Today however the amusing ad award goes to these budding film makers who are looking something still going after the bomb drops:
CALL OUT Spiral an ambitious short Sci-fi film produced by the Western Australia Screen Academy at Edith Cowan University, we are seeking an 80’s era van to be used as our post-apocalyptic ration food van in the film.
Any colour, condition will be considered, but must have a side door and would prefer minimal windows.
This film will air on channel 9, at our red carpet Gala screening and film festivals around the world, if you would like your van featured in the film and come onto the set.
They've suggested something like this: (It's a Mitsubishi L300 Express from the mid 80's)
But of course being uni students, they'll be happy with whatever comes along (or possibly pushed onto the set). Personally I reckon some kind of Mitsubishi Delica painted battle grey would look pretty decent handing out soylent green to survivors:
Yes it's probably got a few too many windows but if you weld some light steel plate over them them...
It kind of reminds me of the Aussie film Undead from 2003:
Which also had a van as an escape vehicle - only in the documentary I watched (an extra on the DVD) they shared that it was terribly unreliable. So here's hoping that if the Spiral crew do score a van, it's a well working one :)
Any van suggestions you reckon would be a good fit to drive around in post apocalyptic conditions? Let me know below.
