Today Alfa Romeo have announced they are back in F1, good news. Its great to see them back in the top tier of motor racing.
I like Alfa Romeo and have always wanted one, from the Sprint through to the GT which is one of the best looking cars on the planet, 159 would be nice, and of course a Brera. I’d even take a 4C if one was offered to me for free. And the 8C was a beautiful car.
But as we all know its just going to be a rebranded Ferrari Engine. It will be interesting to see if they get any good bits from Maranello that enable Sauber to get a little bit further up the grid.
Although its little more than a marketing stunt, on the surface its good to see Alfa will be back.
Can they follow up and build a nice sports car like the GTV or the Sprint and give everyone something to look forward to owning? With the success of the MX5 and Fiat 124 Spyder, an Alfa Romeo Sports car in this price bracket would be fantastic.
Perhaps even a halo hypercar based on the Ferrari La Ferrari platform with a limited production run would be in the works, how great would that be? I’m Dreaming big time now.

They have an opportunity to revive the brand and give us some nice sports cars if they want, will that happen?
Will it be an opportunity or will they be driving around at the back of the grid with the Honda powered Torro Rossos, 2018 looks to be interesting for that alone, I hope they do move up it.
Sergio Marchionne, CEO, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles:
“This agreement with the Sauber F1 Team is a significant step in the reshaping of the Alfa Romeo brand, which will return to Formula 1 after an absence of more than 30 years. A storied marque that has helped make the history of this sport, Alfa Romeo will join other major automakers that participate in Formula 1. The brand itself will also benefit from the sharing of technology and strategic know-how with a partner of the Sauber F1 Team’s undisputed experience. The Alfa Romeo engineers and technicians, who have already demonstrated their capabilities with the newly-launched models, Giulia and Stelvio, will have the opportunity to make that experience available to the Sauber F1 Team. At the same time, Alfa Romeo fans will once again have the opportunity to support an automaker that is determined to begin writing an exciting new chapter in its unique, legendary sporting history.”
Whatever you reckon Sergio just give us some nice affordable sports cars now so we can buy a hot Alfa to drive around in everyday. I’d be ok with another MX5 rebody the Fiat looks great, even if thats to hard just take the Fiat badges off and replace with Alfa badges, I’d buy one.
